According to France Info, the latest genetic analyses conducted in connection with the death of young Émile have yielded no identification. The DNA discovered on the child's clothing matches none of the 106 samples taken in early 2026 from residents of the hamlet of Haut-Vernet in the Hautes-Alpes.
Young Émile had gone missing in the summer of 2023 from this isolated hamlet. His remains were subsequently found, but the investigation into the exact circumstances of his death has still failed to identify a person responsible. The DNA trace found on his t-shirt constitutes one of the central pieces of evidence in the ongoing inquiry.
106 samples, zero matches
Investigators had conducted a DNA sampling campaign among residents of the hamlet in the hope of identifying the person whose genetic profile appears on the boy's clothing. The results, reported by France Info, are fruitless: none of the profiles collected matches the trace in question.
This absence of a match leaves the question of the identity of the carrier of this DNA entirely open. Nor does it allow determination of the circumstances in which this trace was deposited on the child's garment.
An investigation still open
The Émile case continues to attract considerable attention, particularly owing to incidents surrounding the family. The child's grandparents have stated they feel "in danger" after an attempted arson attack on their home at Haut-Vernet. A man detained in connection with these fires saw his custody extended, and he is due to appear on 7 July, again according to France Info.
The unidentified DNA trace remains at this stage one of the major lines of inquiry in the judicial investigation into the death of young Émile.
