Estelle Mouzin's father criticises ministers following Lyhanna's disappearance
According to nicematin.com, Éric Mouzin, father of Estelle Mouzin — a victim of serial killer Michel Fourniret — has described as "surreal" the statements made by Gérald Darmanin and Laurent Nuñez regarding the Lyhanna case, whilst autopsy results of the body found in Gers were still not available.
Appearing on RTL on Friday 5 June, Éric Mouzin stated that the ministers of Justice and the Interior "seem to be discovering the existence of dysfunctions within their ministry". He clarified that the situation was not "the result of developments over the past month or a few weeks", but dated back much further.
"They know the situation. Gérald Darmanin was minister of the Interior, and is now Keeper of the Seals," he said on RTL.
Reforms called into question
Éric Mouzin pointed to the "draconian restructuring of justice resources" carried out by Rachida Dati when she held the position of Keeper of the Seals, as well as the reform of the judicial police, which, according to him, makes "the work of investigators increasingly complicated".
"Structural dysfunctions in the justice system persist and complicate matters. We are told that there were several complaints that did not result in proceedings — we must ask ourselves why there was no investigation," he denounced.
Previous complaints dismissed
The Republic Prosecutor in Auch, Clémence Meyer, confirmed that the suspect had been the subject of complaints in 2022 and in 2025. The first was dismissed; the investigation concerning the second was still ongoing at the time of the facts. Ms Meyer also announced, without providing further details, that a new complaint for rape of a minor had been filed Wednesday morning.
These gaps in the handling of the suspect's background fuel growing incomprehension. The mayor of Fleurance also denounced a "profound dysfunction", pointing to a "system" that neglects "the suffering of victims and families".
Crisis meeting at Matignon
Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu, who was initially to visit the ultra-secure prison in Vendin-le-Vieil, in Pas-de-Calais, instead convened a meeting at Matignon from 10:30 onwards with ministers Laurent Nuñez and Gérald Darmanin in order to "take stock of the situation" on this matter. Darmanin was moreover expected to appear on TF1 in the evening.
