A 41-year-old man has been charged with the death and sexual violence suffered by an 11-year-old schoolgirl in the Gers.

The Agen public prosecutor's office announced on Wednesday 15 July 2026 that a 41-year-old man, a temporary worker, had been charged with the death and sexual violence against an 11-year-old child. The body of the young girl had been discovered on 4 June in the Gers department.
The suspect was transferred from the Mont-de-Marsan penitentiary establishment to be questioned by the investigating magistrates. According to the clarifications provided by the deputy prosecutor, he provided some information about his profile before exercising his right not to answer questions.
This new charge comes on top of an initial charge for disappearance and unlawful confinement. The judges have now upheld the charges of homicide of a minor under 15 years of age, committed with or preceded by sexual assault, as well as the charge of sexual assault on a minor.
The acts expose the suspect to a life sentence.
In another case, designated under the name "Rosa", the same individual has also been charged with sexual offences against another child. The mother of this child had filed a complaint in the summer of 2025, without any action being taken at that time. An investigation document indicates that the victim declared having been abused on numerous occasions. During this second questioning, the defendant again exercised his right to silence before being placed in custody.
