A 51-year-old police officer from Martinique has been remanded in custody after being charged with criminal association, active and passive corruption, and aggravated money laundering. The alleged facts date back to his former post in Toulouse.
Police officer imprisoned in Martinique in corruption case
A 51-year-old officer currently stationed on the island of Martinique has been charged and remanded in custody following a period of police custody. The case is being investigated by the IGPN, the service responsible for overseeing law enforcement.
The acts he is accused of date back to the period when he worked in Toulouse, before his return to the Antilles. The magistrates particularly accuse him of having accepted or offered undue advantages, but also of being involved in a criminal network and money laundering operations by an organised gang.
A native of the island, this officer was first questioned during police custody before being brought before the investigating magistrate. The latter decided to remand him in custody pending the continuation of judicial proceedings.
It is the DNAC, a cell specialised in tracking unlawful conduct within the security services, that is leading the investigation. Recently established within the IGPN, this structure aims to curb misconduct within law enforcement bodies.
The investigation is ongoing and further interviews could take place shortly to establish whether other individuals participated in these activities.
