Road agent killed in Eure: suspect arrested in Marseille, charged with manslaughter

According to ici.fr, Killian, a 24-year-old officer with the inter-departmental roads direction North-West (DIRNO), was fatally struck by a van on the evening of Tuesday 24 June 2025 on the RN 154 at Heudreville-sur-Eure. The victim had placed safety cones on the roadside to secure a broken-down vehicle when he was struck by the vehicle, "travelling at high speed", according to a statement from the Eure prefect's office.
The driver was apprehended quickly at the scene of the accident. "He had remained at the scene", confirmed Rémi Coutin, public prosecutor for Évreux, confirming information from the AFP. The man, placed in police custody, was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. A flagrant offence investigation was opened on charges of "aggravated involuntary manslaughter" and entrusted to the motorised platoon of the Gaillon gendarmerie. He was subsequently charged and remanded in custody.
The Minister of Transport, Philippe Tabarot, and the prefect of Eure, Charles Giusti, visited the DIRNO operational centre in Évreux in the evening to meet with the victim's relatives and colleagues. A medical and psychological support unit was also established, the prefect's office indicated.
The prefect recalled in his statement the daily risks faced by road agents, calling on drivers to respect safety procedures: "Respect the safety corridor: slow down and move over as far as possible."
Within DIRNO, the death of the young officer sparked "shock and dismay" among colleagues. Killian was posthumously appointed knight of the national order of merit, according to a presidential decree published in the Journal officiel.
