Aix-en-Provence: 19-year-old student abducted and raped, suspect has serious criminal record
A young woman was forced into a car during the night from Friday to Saturday and then sexually assaulted. The suspect, aged 47, had served an 18-year sentence for five rapes committed previously.

Around one o'clock in the morning, between Friday and Saturday, a 19-year-old student was subjected to abduction followed by sexual assault in Aix-en-Provence, in the Bouches-du-Rhône department. The young woman, living in the Gazelles university residence hall, had gone outside for a few moments to get some fresh air, the heat making her apartment unbearable.
A motorist then approached her. Worried, the student tried to move away by walking faster. The driver nevertheless followed her, intimidated her—probably by means of a blade—and forced her to get into his car.
Once inside, the victim discreetly called the police without making any sound. The duty officer was able to listen to the exchanges between the young woman and her attacker, immediately realising that a serious situation was occurring. The abductor eventually discovered the ruse and cut off the phone.
Law enforcement officers launched an urgent search to locate the car. The suspect, a 47-year-old man originally from Algeria and raised by French adoptive parents, was apprehended. He already has a 2013 conviction that sent him to prison for 18 years for five sexual assaults with penetration.
