The National Antiterrorism Prosecutor's Office (PNAT) opened an investigation after the discovery, during the night of 11 July 2026, of weapons and ammunition inside a vehicle parked in Sarcelles, in the Val-d'Oise department, in the Paris region. The services of the General Directorate of Internal Security (DGSI) had identified this vehicle as a potential means to commit an act of violence targeting the local Jewish community.
Approximately 300 residents of a Paris suburban district where a significant Jewish community resides were evacuated as a precautionary measure. French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez confirmed this evacuation operation linked to the presence of the suspect vehicle near the city's synagogue.
Law enforcement established a security zone around the vehicle, which was parked near a cinema and several restaurants. These establishments were cleared in the early evening as a precaution.
The investigation was entrusted to the DGSI, the Antiterrorism Sub-directorate of the Judicial Police (PJ) and the police services of Val-d'Oise. Authorities are continuing their investigations to determine the origin and intentions linked to this threat.
