Alès: gas leak and discovery of suspected drug dealing location
On Saturday afternoon, an alert mobilised emergency services in the Cévennes district of Alès. A gas smell and worrying hissing sounds prompted occupants of a building on Rue du Lozère to contact the Gard firefighters.
The fire personnel measured gas concentrations and decided to evacuate around twenty people living in the building. Once the premises had been secured and ventilated, an unexpected discovery emerged.
One of the apartments visited by the firefighters showed signs suggesting it was being used as a base for activities linked to the illicit sale of narcotics. In light of these findings, the rescue forces called upon national police officers to take over on site.
