The Paris prosecutor's office issued its decision on 25 September: Anne-Elisabeth Blateau, an actress known for her role in "Scènes de ménage", has been ordered to take a parental responsibility course and subject to a therapeutic injunction, according to parismatch.com. The 50-year-old actress had been apprehended on Tuesday at the Bois de Vincennes, on suspicion of violence against her twelve-year-old son. Taken to the police station in the twelfth arrondissement of Paris, she was in a state of "manifest intoxication" according to police sources. During her custody, she had become particularly agitated, removing her hand from the handcuffs "on several occasions".
"Known to the justice system for insulting behaviour and violence while intoxicated, Ms. Blateau was brought before the prosecutor's delegate on Thursday for an alternative to prosecution in the form of a criminal settlement, with a parental responsibility course and a therapeutic injunction," states a statement relayed by the AFP. The actress will thus need to demonstrate her willingness to change her behaviour by completing the aforementioned course and adhering to the required treatment protocol.
Disclosure of a bipolar disorder
Two days after her apprehension, her lawyer Maître Delphine Meillet spoke publicly to explain the origin of the allegations against her. "The origin of this behaviour has a cause that my client has decided to reveal on this occasion. She suffers from a condition that took time to diagnose. It is bipolar disorder," declared Maître Meillet in a statement issued on Thursday.
The lawyer also announced her client's temporary withdrawal: "She has decided to step back over the coming weeks to rest and devote herself fully to her care and family. She will do everything in her power to ensure that this type of incident does not happen again. She needs respect for her privacy during this phase of rebuilding before she can return to her audience."
Projects suspended
As a consequence of this situation, all of Anne-Elisabeth Blateau's professional projects have been suspended. The actress, whose role in the successful series "Scènes de ménage" had earned her widespread recognition, will therefore not be proceeding with her commitments in the immediate term.
