CNN Greece reports that the Paris prosecutor's office announced on Sunday 4 January the arrest of a man following a failed attempted theft at the Nissim de Camondo Museum on Saturday evening.

The suspect, born in 1998, was taken into police custody. According to the prosecution authorities, "no artworks appear to have been stolen", though no further details were provided regarding his identity.

According to the newspaper Le Parisien, which broke the news, the perpetrator entered the building from the gardens at the rear and then broke a window to enter the interior of the museum.

The Nissim de Camondo Museum houses one of the most significant collections of 18th-century art in France. It currently remains closed due to renovation, with its reopening scheduled for 2030.

The incident is part of a series of attacks against French museums. In October 2025, a high-profile robbery took place at the Louvre, in which jewels of inestimable value were stolen from the collection of French kings and emperors – among them a necklace with sapphires and diamonds belonging to Queen Marie-Amélie, as well as tiaras. Nearly a year later, the stolen items remain missing despite investigations by the authorities. The only discovery was the damaged crown of Empress Eugénie, which was found discarded.
