A 31-year-old man has been remanded in custody and charged with murder following the death of a man in his forties who was stabbed in the La Boucan neighbourhood of Sainte-Rose, Guadeloupe.

The judicial authorities announced on 13 July the charging of a 31-year-old individual with premeditated murder committed in the municipality of Sainte-Rose. The tragedy occurred on Friday 10 July in the La Boucan sector, where a 46-year-old resident lost his life after being attacked with a box cutter.
Neighbouring witnesses alerted the police, who arrested the suspect at his home shortly after the incident. During questioning in police custody, the young man admitted to inflicting the fatal blows. He explained that a verbal altercation had occurred between him and the victim on the streets of the neighbourhood. According to his account, he went to a shop to obtain the sharp weapon before returning to attack the man in his forties.
The individual also revealed to investigators that he suffered from schizophrenia but had discontinued his medication therapy. Despite this factor, the magistrates chose to pursue the charge of murder, considering that the prior acquisition of the sharp tool demonstrated sufficient intent and premeditation. This charge carries a sentence of life imprisonment.
The suspect was brought before the investigating magistrate on Sunday 12 July. Following this hearing, he was remanded in custody.
