Assassination of Mehdi Kessaci: four additional suspects arrested
The investigation into the murder of Mehdi Kessaci saw a new development on Tuesday with the arrest of four additional individuals. Three of them were already serving sentences in connection with other judicial proceedings, according to a source close to the case cited by franceinfo, confirming information from Le Parisien.
According to the same source, three suspects are suspected of having arranged the logistics of the operation, whilst the fourth is believed to be the person who carried out the act.
Mehdi Kessaci, younger brother of Amine Kessaci — a figure known for his fight against drug trafficking and now a municipal elected official in Marseille — was shot multiple times in broad daylight in the Phocaean city on 13 November 2025. His older brother was elected deputy mayor on 22 March and has benefited from permanent police protection since receiving threats.
At the end of March, six people had already been committed for trial in this case, notably on charges of "murder" and "attempted assassination as part of an organised group". Five of them had been remanded in custody.
