From Tuesday 9 to Thursday 11 June, the Vaucluse assize court is trying two individuals in connection with the death of Michel Pietrement, which occurred during the night of 28 June 2022 in Avignon.
Police called to the scene found the lifeless body of the man in his accommodation, lying in blood. Ali-Jawad R., who was present at the address in a state of intoxication and under the influence of cocaine, initially stated that he had gone out to obtain laughing gas and discovered upon his return that his evening companion was bound and lifeless. A neighbouring resident alerted the emergency services at his request. The young man was interviewed and subsequently released.
Three weeks later, on 31 July, he presented himself to police and admitted to killing the man. An autopsy revealed that the death was caused by a succession of blows inflicted with a blunt instrument: a large-volume bottle of whisky.
The deceased, described by his employer as a conscientious employee, and his alleged murderer had met shortly beforehand, on 21 June, during the festivities of the Fête de la Musique. The alleged perpetrator of the crime was only 19 years old at the time.
The co-accused is charged separately with tampering with the crime scene. Lawyer Charlène Neveu-Sanchez represents one of the two defendants.
