A 17-year-old boy was admitted Friday evening as an emergency to Besançon's CHU Jean-Minjoz hospital, seriously wounded by two knife blows, according to estrepublicain.fr. Taken into care around 11 pm, the young man is no longer in danger of death at present, according to the latest available information. He remains under observation, however.
The victim was discovered by a motorist lying in a pool of blood on a public roadway. The driver dropped the wounded boy at the emergency entrance before leaving without waiting. His behaviour raised questions among investigators, but he was ultimately ruled out of suspicion.
The adolescent had a wound to the chest and another to the thigh. He was operated on in an emergency.
An investigation was opened within minutes of the discovery of the incident. Thanks to witness statements gathered in the hours that followed, police were able to identify two individuals. Shortly after midnight, the anti-crime unit apprehended a 27-year-old man and a 15-year-old minor.
"They remain in custody in connection with an investigation opened for attempted murder," said Besançon's prosecutor's office on Saturday, speaking through Christine de Curraize. The exact location of the incident remains to be determined, according to the prosecutor's office.
The two suspects are known to police. The motive for the assault remains unclear for the moment. Questioning sessions were planned for this weekend in order to clarify the circumstances of this violent attack.
