The Béziers corrective tribunal handed down its judgment on Monday 1 June: a 19-year-old man was sentenced to ten months' imprisonment, of which six months with a two-year probationary suspension, for throwing projectiles at agents of the municipal police. According to midilibre.fr, a committal order was issued at the hearing, with the result that the defendant, who arrived at the tribunal a free man, left escorted by national police officers in the direction of Béziers prison.
The facts date back to 15 April. Whilst officers from the anti-drugs unit were patrolling the La Devèze district, the young man and several other individuals threw projectiles at the law enforcement vehicle. Pursued, the accused was apprehended — his accomplices remain at large — and then placed in custody at the police station.
On 17 April, he was placed in pre-trial detention following this custody period, before being released under judicial supervision on 20 April. It was therefore in this context that he appeared before the tribunal on 1 June.
In addition to the custodial sentence, the tribunal imposed on him the obligation to work and to pay damages to two agents of the Béziers municipal police recognised as victims in this matter.
