An armed man wielding two knives was shot dead by a police officer on Saturday in Bobigny, in Seine-Saint-Denis, according to sudouest.fr. According to the Paris police prefecture, the individual had previously wounded two of his neighbours before law enforcement intervened.
Police officers had been dispatched to the scene for a dispute between neighbours. Upon arrival, they found themselves facing the man, knives in hand and threatening. As he lunged towards the three officers, one of them used his firearm, hitting the individual in the abdomen. Despite intervention by the emergency medical service, the man succumbed to his injuries.
The police prefecture stated that the officer had been "forced to use his firearm", according to the official formulation cited by sudouest.fr. One of the officers present during the intervention was also injured.
Contacted by the AFP, the Bobigny public prosecutor's office confirmed that the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN) had been notified. An investigation has been opened into violence with a weapon resulting in death.
