A collection of ancient gold coins has been stolen from the premises of an archaeological association near Toulouse. The value of the haul amounts to €120,000.

The premises of an association specialising in archaeology, located in the Toulouse conurbation, have been the subject of a burglary. The perpetrators made off with a collection of ancient gold coins valued at €120,000.
These artefacts, from a site dating to the Roman occupation, were unearthed in 2012 at Montans. The association Archéologie du Midi Toulousain was preserving them for a future exhibition at the Saint-Raymond museum in the city.
The thieves gained entry to the buildings by damaging the main door. Inside, they forced open a metal safe containing the coins.
Beyond the financial loss, this theft constitutes a considerable loss for the region's heritage. These objects offered a valuable insight into the Gallo-Roman period in south-west France.
The gendarmerie brigade of Castanet-Tolosan has opened an investigation to locate the perpetrators and recover the stolen goods.
