A young man in his twenties was committed for trial for murder, failure to remain at the scene of an accident and driving without a licence on Friday, following the death of another man of the same age that occurred Wednesday evening in Cannes, in the Alpes-Maritimes. According to France Info, it was the Grasse public prosecutor's office that communicated this information on Sunday 24 May.
The victim was "deliberately struck twice", the prosecutor's office specified in its official statement.
A brawl stemming from urban stunt driving
According to the public prosecutor, the events began during urban stunt driving, during which the victim had performed "several dangerous manoeuvres". A brawl then broke out. The prosecutor's office indicates that "all evidence suggests that the suspect's motivation is linked to a long-standing conflict".
The suspect presented himself voluntarily at the police station
After initially fleeing, the suspect ultimately turned himself in to Cannes police station on the evening of the incident. Immediately placed in police custody, he was committed for trial on Friday before being remanded in custody following this measure.
