A man of approximately 60 years of age voluntarily presented himself at Chalon-sur-Saône police station on Thursday 9 July 2026, at around 9 o'clock in the morning, to declare that he had killed his former partner.

According to his own account, he had shot dead a woman in her forties with whom he had maintained a relationship in the past. The tragedy is said to have taken place on rue de Paris, in the direction of the municipality of Champforgeuil, in the Saône-et-Loire department.

Upon receipt of this confession, investigators from the police station were dispatched to the locations indicated by the suspect in order to verify his statements. The Chalon-sur-Saône public prosecutor's office was seized of the matter and opened an investigation. On site, the medical examiner made himself available to examine the victim's body, accompanied by ballistics specialists tasked with analysing material evidence.

The suspect was placed in police custody for voluntary homicide. The exact circumstances of the tragedy, in particular the motives which drove this man to commit the act as well as the nature of the weapon used, have not yet been clarified by the judicial authorities.

The investigation, entrusted to the Chalon-sur-Saône police services, will have to establish the precise sequence of events and determine responsibility in this femicide.
