A 34-year-old man has been sentenced following a series of offences committed in the night from Sunday to Monday in Clermont-Ferrand and the surrounding area. The facts began around 2:30 a.m. on boulevard Kennedy, when a patrol spotted a Fiat Punto whose driver had just run a red light.
The thirty-something man, who was not a licensed driver, had borrowed his flatmate's vehicle without warning him. Pursued by police officers, he continued to commit traffic violations by passing a second light on amber. He then slowed down without, however, agreeing to come to a stop, prolonging the chase as far as Gerzat.
It was in this municipality that the motorist finally stopped. His passenger then fled on foot. The officers proceeded to arrest the driver, but the latter managed to escape. He was found a few minutes later hiding in a bush.
Tests carried out revealed a blood alcohol level of 0.5 grammes per litre of blood, as well as a positive result for cannabis and cocaine. The man was tried for these various offences.
