13-year-old schoolboy arrested in Masny after bomb threat posted on TikTok

A 13-year-old adolescent was arrested at 3.20am in Masny (Nord) after posting a bomb threat on TikTok, which the boy described as a "joke".

Night-time arrest in Masny following threatening TikTok video

A 13-year-old schoolboy was apprehended at his home in Masny, near Douai, in the early hours of Friday morning at 3.20am, following the publication on TikTok of a video containing a bomb threat. According to midilibre.fr, which reported statements from the prosecutor's office and a police source transmitted to Agence France-Presse, the adolescent was subsequently placed in police custody.

A "fictitious timetable" generated by AI

The prosecutor for Douai, Frédéric Fourtoy, clarified to Agence France-Presse that the minor had published "a fictitious timetable designed by AI with written in the comments + tomorrow attack +" (sic). The video had been reported via the Pharos platform, triggering the arrest of the schoolboy for glorification of terrorism.

Based on initial investigations, the adolescent "had simply wanted to make a joke to amuse his classmates", Mr Fourtoy stated. Upon arrest, he "immediately deleted the post in the presence of investigators, his legal representative and his lawyer", he added.

Reclassification of charges and summons in December

The prosecutor concluded that "it is clearly apparent that he did not appreciate the ideological dimension" of his video. As a result, the charges were reclassified "as threats of crime against persons materialised in writing, image or other object".

The minor, previously unknown to the justice system, was summoned "for the purposes of a restorative measure" on 14 December. The education authority for the Lille academy, contacted by Agence France-Presse, declined to comment on the incident.
