Body found in the Doubs, four months after the disappearance of a teacher
According to Google News LU FR, a walker discovered a body on Monday 31 August 2026, in the middle of the day, in the forest of Thoraise, in the Doubs. The Besançon public prosecutor's office confirmed the discovery the following day, indicating that "an investigation to determine the causes of death has been opened and entrusted to the military personnel of the investigation brigade".
The public prosecutor's office states that "several objects discovered near the body suggest that it could be Sonia Vacheret, whose disappearance was reported on 9 May 2026 in Montferrand-le-Château". A science teacher in Besançon, aged 54, she had disappeared on that same day without giving any sign of life since.
Significant search resources had been deployed by the Doubs gendarmerie in the following months, "without making it possible to locate Madame Vacheret", according to the public prosecutor's office statement.
Formal identification of the body remains to be established. "An autopsy and DNA samples will thus be carried out", indicated the public prosecutor's office, in order also to determine the exact circumstances of the death.
