Paris Court of Appeal reduces Isabelle Adjani's sentence for tax fraud
On 1 July, the Paris Court of Appeal ruled on the case of actress Isabelle Adjani. She received a sentence of ten months' detention with a suspended sentence, and a financial penalty of €10,000. This decision upholds her conviction for aggravated tax fraud and money laundering, while substantially reducing the initial sentence.
In autumn 2023, the criminal court in the French capital had imposed on the actress a sentence of two years with a suspended sentence and a penalty of €250,000.
The artist, who has won five César Awards, had to answer to several violations. She is alleged to have established a fictitious residence in Portugal during the years 2016 and 2017, which would have allowed her to withhold €236,000 from the French tax authorities. Moreover, she was accused of disguising a donation of two million euros as a loan, and of routing €120,000 through an undeclared overseas bank account.
