Lesechos.fr has detailed the sequence of events of the cyberattack carried out last summer against the official website of the Directorate General of Public Finance (DGFiP). The attack targeted the tax portal, exposing weaknesses in the French state's digital infrastructure.
An 18-year-old suspect, operating under the pseudonym "ChatNoir", has been put under investigation in this case, according to Le Monde. He was already involved in the data theft targeting the Free operator. A second suspect has also been put under investigation in a separate case.
The Senate has furthermore commissioned an inspection that highlighted "structural weaknesses" in the tax authority's computer system. The ANSSI, the national authority on cybersecurity, has for its part announced a strengthening of its intervention capacity in the face of data breaches.
