A municipal official from Morbihan lost his life on 4 July following a confrontation with a recreational boater in a port on Belle-Île-en-Mer. Dominique Rousselot, who led the commune of Locmaria, died at the age of 57.

The magistrate of the republic of Lorient, Laetitia Mirande, indicated that judicial proceedings had just been launched for acts of violence resulting in death where the perpetrator did not intend to cause it. According to her, it is premature to determine with precision the conditions in which the tragedy occurred. A medical-legal examination is to be carried out to establish the actual causes of death. The recreational boater in question was held by law enforcement.

Regional news outlets report that the municipal councillor suffered a cardiac failure after attempting to calm a dispute between his son and the navigator. Other media outlets point to verbal exchanges as the origin of the conflict.
