Weapon of war discovered in car at Sarcelles, national counter-terrorism prosecutor seized of case
On Saturday 11 July, at approximately 21:30, security forces identified a suspicious car parked in Sarcelles, in Val-d'Oise. The parking location, close to a cinema, several restaurants and a Jewish place of worship, immediately alerted the domestic intelligence services.
The Minister of the Interior, Laurent Nuñez, indicated to the press that a long weapon, described as a weapon of war, was found inside the vehicle. The individuals who had abandoned the car had not been found at the time of the intervention, and their motivations remained unclear.
As a precaution, authorities proceeded with the evacuation of approximately three hundred individuals in the vicinity. Concern about an action directed against the Jewish community in the area motivated this protective measure.
The national counter-terrorism prosecutor has been seized of the matter and has opened an investigation to elucidate the case and locate those responsible. This discovery comes in a context of heightened security tensions surrounding Jewish places of worship in France.
