Two ex-employees of an ArcelorMittal research centre received four-month suspended sentences for breach of trust after embezzling approximately 200,000 euros through fraudulent invoices and tampered gift vouchers.

A court imposed a sentence of four months' imprisonment, suspended, in May on two former members of staff at the ArcelorMittal research institute based in Maizières-lès-Metz. They were prosecuted for breach of trust. The amount of damages, assessed by the public prosecutor's office at approximately 200,000 euros, is disputed by defence lawyers. A civil hearing is scheduled for 2 October to determine the exact amount of compensation.
The charges cover a period from February 2017 to September 2022. The accused admitted to having set up a fraudulent system: falsified invoices when making various purchases and the misuse of gift vouchers allowed them to appropriate sums of money. The proceedings took place using the CRPC mechanism, which makes it possible to rapidly try a person who admits to the facts alleged against them.
All parties involved remain silent. The management of the research site states that proceedings are not concluded. Nathalie Marchegay, counsel for the defendants, also chose not to comment. Property seized during the investigation was subject to confiscation.
