Two men have been charged and remanded in custody following the discovery of a British man found dead at Verlus (Gers) with a head wound in September.

According to the Agen public prosecutor's office, two men were charged and remanded in custody on Saturday as part of the investigation into the death of an 84-year-old British man found at his home at the end of September in Verlus, a small commune in Gers. They are being prosecuted for "theft preceded, accompanied or followed by violence resulting in death".
The victim presented with a head wound and signs of multiple injuries. The first suspect, aged 32, has 21 previous convictions, mainly for theft. His alleged accomplice, aged 26, had no criminal record until now.
During the night of 25 to 26 September, police officers from Mont-de-Marsan attempted to stop a vehicle whose occupants refused to comply and fled on foot. Gendarmes from Gers, having the registration number, went to the address of the registered owner in Verlus. They discovered the victim unresponsive there.
The 32-year-old suspect is also facing charges in connection with an attempted murder committed in Mont-de-Marsan on 6 October. A third person, aged 39 and "appearing to suffer from mental health issues", was charged with complicity in attempted murder in this incident.
