A volunteer firefighter and a second teenager, both aged 18, have been remanded in custody following their police detention as part of the investigation into the forest fires in Fontainebleau, according to franceinfo.
The two men were arrested while flames were still advancing through the massif located in Seine-et-Marne. One of the two is a volunteer firefighter. They admitted to having set fires in several locations.
They were presented to a magistrate and then remanded in custody. Emergency services remained mobilised in the area to contain the blazes. Investigators will seek to establish the suspects' motives and the full extent of the destruction.
