Two Girondins ultras to be tried in November for assault on rival supporter
Two members of the North Gate group, aged 22 and 34, will appear on 5 November for aggravated violence against an Ultramarines supporter in Cenon.
Two Girondins supporters referred for trial for aggravated violence
Two members of the North Gate ultras group, aged 22 and 34, will be tried on 5 November for "aggravated violence involving the use of a weapon without total incapacity for work", announced the Bordeaux public prosecutor on Thursday in a statement transmitted to France Info.
The incident dates back to 25 January, when an Ultramarines supporter was assaulted by several individuals outside his home in Cenon, Gironde, at around 4:30 a.m. Two previous individuals had already been sentenced for these same offences on 6 March, the prosecutor's office specifies.
Investigation traced through telephone records
The two new defendants were identified through "the study of telephone data", which allowed investigators to place them at the scene of the assault as well as in Granville, in the Manche. The victim was indeed returning from a trip made to that town with his group of supporters.
The same evening, another Ultramarines member who participated in the same journey reported spotting, in Villenave-d'Ornon in Gironde, a vehicle containing several members of the North Gate. According to the prosecutor, this person had fled in the direction of the Bordeaux ring road, "before being pursued at high speed by one, then two other vehicles". He had filed a complaint on 14 February.
Judicial supervision and stadium ban
The two men were referred on Wednesday to the prosecutor's office under a procedure for appearance by police report. They were placed under judicial supervision, with a ban on contacting each other and a ban on entering any sports venue.
The prosecutor's office emphasises that "these assaults are part of a context of high tension between supporter groups" of Girondins de Bordeaux, a club which currently plays in Nationale 2, the fourth division of French football.
