The Loire-Atlantique gendarmerie launched an appeal for witnesses on Wednesday 21 April to find Manon Relandeau, according to tf1info.fr. This mother of 31 years old, residing in Saint-Étienne-de-Montluc, has had no contact since 27 March.
"Any person with information that could help investigators is invited to come forward," the gendarmerie wrote in its statement. "Every piece of information matters, even if it seems insignificant to you." Manon Relandeau is described as measuring 1.60 metres tall, slim, with long wavy chestnut hair. The Nantes public prosecutor's office has opened an investigation into murder and abduction. It specifies that Manon Relandeau's partner, aged 41, took a flight on 2 April from Nantes to Algeria, accompanied by their 15-month-old daughter. After leaving French territory, he "contacted a few people by telephone," according to the prosecutor's office, which provided no further details.
It was close family members of the young woman who raised the alarm on 3 April, worried about not having heard from her and her baby for several days. "Very quickly, investigations carried out during the day led us to believe this was a worrying disappearance," declared Thierry Coin, second-in-command of the Nantes gendarmerie company, during a press briefing held outside Manon Relandeau's farm on Tuesday evening. "That same evening, we had criminal investigation technicians on site. And throughout the Easter weekend, we were ramping up efforts to reach practically 60 military personnel deployed," he added.
Drone and helicopter searches were deployed in parallel. Two canine units, divers and the river patrol are also mobilised. A national investigation cell, headed by the Nantes investigative section, was specifically established for this case.
At this stage, investigations have not yet made it possible to determine with precision the exact date of the young woman's and her daughter's disappearance. "We are absolutely leaving no avenue and no location unconsidered," Thierry Coin emphasised.
