Double murder in Lagor: nonagenarian charged, cites old neighbourhood dispute
A 90-year-old man has been charged with murder after killing an elderly couple, his neighbours, in Lagor, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. He admitted to the facts whilst in police custody.
Murder of neighbours in Lagor: 90-year-old suspect admits facts and is charged
A 90-year-old man has been charged with murder after shooting dead an octogenarian couple, his neighbours, in Lagor, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, according to France Info. The prosecutor in Pau, Rodolphe Jarry, confirmed the charge in a statement released to ICI Béarn Bigorre on Thursday. The incident occurred on the evening of Tuesday 22 September.
Admissions in police custody
During his time in police custody, the nonagenarian admitted to firing at the two victims. According to prosecutor Jarry, the suspect cited "an old dispute with his neighbours". He admitted to using his weapon "whilst standing approximately three metres from the victims".
The suspect described firing "twice at his neighbour before reloading and then firing at the neighbour's wife". The two victims, an elderly couple, died as a result of these shots.
Suspect claims he was struck before the shooting
The nonagenarian claims to have been struck by his neighbour during the evening of the incident, "by two blows to the head", according to the statement from the prosecutor in Pau. He states he then seized a rifle "fearing he would suffer further violence".
A doctor examined the suspect: the nonagenarian indeed presented two head wounds, the prosecutor notes.
Autopsy scheduled in Toulouse
An autopsy of the two victims' bodies is to be carried out on Friday at the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Toulouse. The results will establish the exact circumstances of the couple's deaths.
