Murder of Quentin Deranque in Lyon: 5 new suspects charged, 14 total suspects
Eight people were arrested on Tuesday in the investigation into the death of Quentin Deranke, killed in Lyon in February. Five have been charged, bringing the total number of suspects being prosecuted to 14.

According to cnews.fr, eight people were arrested on Tuesday, 22 September in connection with the investigation into the murder of Quentin Deranque, a 23-year-old activist beaten to death in Lyon last February. Five of them were charged following their appearance before investigating judges, bringing the total number of suspects being prosecuted in the case to fourteen, according to a statement from the prosecutor's office.
The arrested individuals are "suspected of having participated in the brawls and various acts of violence, but not of having inflicted the fatal blows", according to sources close to the investigation cited by Agence France-Presse.
Charges retained
The five newly charged suspects all face charges of "participation in a criminal association with a view to preparing an offence". Four of them are also being prosecuted for aggravated violence — involving the use or threat of a weapon, committed as part of a group and with concealment of the face. The prosecutor for Lyon, Thierry Dran, requested that three of these individuals be remanded in custody.
The arrests were carried out under a letter rogatory from the three investigating judges assigned to the case, in the Lyon agglomeration. The judicial investigation concerns acts of "murder, participation in a criminal association and aggravated violence".
Recap of events
Quentin Deranque had been violently beaten on the ground on 12 February 2026 by several hooded individuals, following a brawl between far-left and far-right activists. The violence broke out during a conference by LFI Member of the European Parliament Rima Hassan at Sciences Po Lyon. Suffering from serious cranial trauma, the young man died on 14 February, two days after the incident.
Members of La Jeune Garde implicated
Nine far-left activists had already been charged in this case before the new arrests. Among those accused of beating him are members of the dissolved antifascist movement La Jeune Garde, co-founded by LFI MP Raphaël Arnault. The latter's former parliamentary assistant, Jacques-Elie Favrot, had notably been charged with complicity in murder by instigation.
In parallel, the Lyon prosecutor's office opened a preliminary investigation into the violence committed that same day by far-right activists.
