Second night of urban violence in Tours: four arrests, including three minors
Around 150 young people again took to the city centre of Tours during the evening of Saturday 3 October 2026, according to a police source cited by lanouvellerepublique.fr. The groups, highly mobile, moved from Place Jean-Jaurès to the railway station and the Sanitas neighbourhood.
From 20:30 onwards, around ten Pony bicycles were set on fire at Place Jean-Jaurès, accompanied by half a dozen bins. In their wake, rioters lit several fires. Bus and tram traffic was interrupted as a result of the clashes, with bicycle wreckage obstructing the routes at the Jean-Jaurès stop.
CRS 8, with around sixty officers, was deployed as reinforcement. Young people were stopped and held against a wall on Rue Charles-Gille. No member of the police forces was injured during the evening, according to a police source. Officers did not resort to teargas or rubber bullet launchers (LBD). According to initial information, everything is said to have started following a call made on social media to plunder the city centre.
Late in the evening, Catherine Sorita-Minard, Prosecutor of the Republic in Tours, announced four arrests for participation in an armed gathering or with a view to committing violence or vandalism. Among those apprehended: three minors aged 15 to 17 and one young adult aged 18. Around 22:20, Fil bleu officers were working to clear the tram lines of debris.
This was the second consecutive night of disturbances in the area. On Friday 2 October in the evening, violence had already erupted in the same location: bins set on fire, a barricade erected on Avenue de Grammont and a vehicle burned in Sanitas. On Saturday afternoon, a gang had also attempted to force their way into the establishment L'Heure tranquille in Tours.
