Child found dead in Rennes: murder investigation opened after body discovered
The body of an 11-year-old boy was found on Sunday on the banks of the Vilaine in Rennes, with a bath towel tied around his neck. The public prosecutor's office has opened a murder investigation.

According to France Info, the lifeless body of an 11-year-old child was found on Sunday 24 May, in late afternoon, on the banks of the Vilaine, near the centre of Rennes, in Ille-et-Vilaine. Around his neck, a wet bath towel was tied very tightly.
The alert was raised at around 4.40 pm by a fisherman who had heard a child's cries. After contacting the police, officers found the boy in a bush. Emergency services were unable to resuscitate him.
The prosecutor evokes the involvement of a third party
A murder investigation has since been opened. "The circumstances of the facts that led to the death remain to be established, but the involvement of a third party is part of the hypotheses," the Rennes public prosecutor's office stated.
Many police officers are mobilised at the scene. The forensic police are working to gather every piece of evidence in this neighbourhood, which is reputed to be quiet and very busy.
