Abduction of 3-year-old girl in Gard: mother charged, father on the run

Mother charged following abduction of her daughter from care home in Uzès

The mother of a three-year-old girl unlawfully removed from a care home in Uzès, in the Gard, has been charged with "child abduction" and "violence against a person performing a public service duty", according to France Info. The Nîmes public prosecutor's office released this information on Friday 5 June, specifying that the mother has also been placed under judicial supervision. The father remains the subject of a search.

Both parents collected the child on Monday without any authorisation, whilst she was placed in the care facility located in Uzès. The following morning, Tuesday, the girl was found in good health in a family apartment in the Drôme. The mother was placed in police custody immediately upon this discovery.

The Nîmes public prosecutor's office confirmed the double charging to the ICI Gard Lozère newsroom, citing both the abduction of the child and violence committed against a public service official during the events.
