Alleged rape during university integration event

According to BFM TV, an 18-year-old young woman, a first-year student in economics and management at Université Grenoble Alpes, reported being raped during the night of 2 to 3 October during an integration weekend organised by the student union at the Vernioz campsite in Isère. More than 300 students attended the event.

The young woman was found in a state of shock beside the swimming pool. In an intoxicated state, she told security personnel that she had been sexually abused by a man she did not know. The student in question, a third-year student from Pont-de-Beauvoisin, attempted to flee and gave security agents a false identity before being arrested by gendarmes from the Roussillon brigade.

After 48 hours in custody, the student was presented to the investigating judge in Vienne on Monday 5 October for examination on a rape charge. During questioning, he denied the allegations, claiming the relationship was consensual and that he had not consumed alcohol. The young man, with no criminal record, chose not to speak before the magistrate.

The student was placed under judicial supervision according to information from Dauphiné Libéré. The public prosecutor's office opened a judicial investigation and referred the case to the judge of freedoms and detention with requests for remand in custody. He was issued with a prohibition on contacting the victim. The investigation continues by rogatory commission in order to determine the full context of the reported facts.
