Ganito escape: Villepinte prison officer charged and remanded in custody
A prison officer at Villepinte prison has been charged and remanded in custody at La Santé prison in the investigation into the escape of Ilyas Kherbouch, known as "Ganito".

According to franceinfo.fr, a prison officer at Villepinte prison in Seine-Saint-Denis was charged and remanded in custody on Friday evening in connection with the investigation into the escape of Ilyas Kherbouch, known as "Ganito". Paris prosecutors confirmed the information on Saturday 30 May, following an initial revelation by Le Parisien.
The prosecution detailed the charges against the officer: forgery and use of forgery in an administrative document, passive corruption by a person holding public authority, passive corruption by a person carrying out a public service mission, aiding escape by a prison guard or assimilated person, organised band escape, and association of wrongdoers with a view to committing an offence punishable by ten years' imprisonment. In accordance with the prosecution's application, he was remanded in custody at La Santé prison in Paris.
The fate of the two other people placed in police custody on Wednesday — described as close associates of Ilyas Kherbouch — was not specified by the prosecution.
An organised escape with forged documents
Ilyas Kherbouch escaped without incident from Villepinte remand prison on 7 March with the help of three accomplices. Two of them presented themselves as police officers, producing forged judicial documents to justify an alleged police custody and obtain the extraction of the detainee. The escape was only discovered 48 hours later by the prison administration.
Kherbouch, known to the criminal courts for violent home-jackings, subsequently spent a few days in the Netherlands, in Delft, in the company of his partner, herself a former prison officer. He was finally arrested on 20 March in the south of France.
