A woman aged 37 was killed on Monday evening in Sarreguemines, Moselle. Her partner turned himself in at the police station to confess to the facts, according to sudouest.fr.
The man was placed in police custody from 20:15 on Monday evening "for the offence of murder by spouse or partner", according to Olivier Glady, prosecutor of the Republic. He declared that he had "presented himself voluntarily at the local police station by confessing that he had strangled her", the magistrate clarified on Tuesday.
The latest official figures published in October show an increase of 11 per cent in spousal femicides between 2023 and 2024, with 107 women killed by their spouse or ex-spouse.
