Fugitive sought after violent death of woman in Châteaumeillant
According to ouest-france.fr, gendarmes in Cher launched an appeal for witnesses on Wednesday 23 September to find Willy Baron, 32, suspected of murdering his partner, 47 years old, found dead on Sunday evening at her home in Châteaumeillant, in the south of the department.
The gendarmes describe Baron as a "dangerous individual": light brown medium-length hair, brown eyes, 1 m 71, normal build. He was last seen on Tuesday in the municipality of Ids-Saint-Roch. The authorities expressly ask the public not to intervene and to call 17 if they have any information.
The victim's body was discovered at 22:50 on Sunday at her home. An autopsy, carried out the following day, concluded that death was "following multiple traumatic injuries", according to the public prosecutor of Bourges, Céline Visiedo, noting that there was "no weapon, nor wounds".
The investigation, initially opened for homicide and entrusted to the research section of the Bourges gendarmerie, was reclassified as homicide by spouse by the Bourges prosecutor's office.
In 2024, 107 women were killed by their spouse or former spouse in France, compared with 96 in 2023, an increase of 11 per cent, according to figures from the Inter-ministerial Mission for the Protection of Women (Miprof).
