Ex-partner arrested in Paris following death of woman in Laval

According to tf1info.fr, a 32-year-old man was apprehended on Thursday, 4 June at Montparnasse station in Paris as he disembarked from a train coming from Laval. He is suspected of the murder of his former partner, a 39-year-old woman found dead in an apartment in Laval.

The initial evidence gathered by investigators quickly designated the ex-partner as the main suspect, according to a statement by Anne-Lyse Jarthon, Public Prosecutor for Laval. The couple had been separated "for several months" and had three children together, aged five, nine and eleven.

The suspect, who resides in the Paris region, himself contacted police to turn himself in, the prosecutor clarified. He had taken a train from Laval before being apprehended in the early afternoon.

His criminal record includes convictions for driving without a licence and theft. However, "no proceedings relating to domestic violence have been recorded concerning this couple", Anne-Lyse Jarthon emphasised.

Forensic investigations are underway to determine the exact circumstances of the death. An investigation for "murder by spouse" has been opened by the public prosecutor's office.
