On 1 July 2026, at around 5 p.m., a woman died following an armed intervention by law enforcement in the south-east of the French capital. The Paris prosecutor's office reported "police gunfire" as the cause of death.
Initial investigation findings indicate that officers had been called to deal with a person described as disoriented, barricaded in a restaurant basement. Upon arrival at the scene, the individual allegedly rushed towards them armed with a bladed weapon, striking a policewoman.
Faced with this assault, a police officer discharged his service weapon. The woman died despite treatment provided by emergency services. A representative of the public prosecutor's office attended the scene.
The officer struck sustained minor injuries. Investigations are continuing to determine all the circumstances of this tragedy.
