Their fraud was discovered on Saturday at a toll station on the A36 motorway, near Belfort, not far from the Swiss border, according to law enforcement, announced on Tuesday.
The operators of this expressway had alerted the gendarmerie to suspected toll fraud. At the next checkpoint, an occupant got out of a car, lifted the barrier to allow three vehicles to pass, then got back in, clarified the local gendarmerie to the AFP news agency. Officers then intercepted the convoy.
All the passengers belonged to the same family.
