Shooting in Décines-Charpieu: one dead and one seriously wounded near Lyon
A man was shot dead on Friday evening in Décines-Charpieu, in the Lyon suburbs, and a second person seriously wounded in the abdomen. Additional CRS riot police reinforcements were deployed to secure the neighbourhood.

A man was shot dead and a second person seriously wounded on Friday, 28 August in the evening in Décines-Charpieu (Rhône), in the eastern suburbs of Lyon, according to France Info. The Rhône prefecture confirmed the facts.
The shooting broke out at around 19:30 in a working-class neighbourhood of the town. The perpetrators fled on electric scooters. A police source told France Télévisions that "around a dozen shell casings were found on the ground". The circumstances and motives for the shooting remain undetermined at this stage.
The second man, struck in the abdomen, was transported urgently to hospital in serious condition. A prefecture official confirmed the information to the AFP, echoing an initial disclosure by the online media LyonMag.com.
The prefect of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, Etienne Guyot, immediately sent additional CRS reinforcements to the scene "to secure the neighbourhood", according to the same prefecture source.
The shooting occurred in the same area where, on 11 May, a deliberate fire had killed three people in a residential building. Three young people aged 16, 17 and 18 were arrested two weeks after the incident, then placed under formal investigation for multiple instances of arson "resulting in the death of three people" as well as "criminal association with a view to committing a crime". Justice had then considered the hypothesis of a settlement of scores linked to drug trafficking to constitute "a serious lead".
