Shooting in Grenoble: three suspects charged with murder in an organised crime context

Three placed under investigation following the fatal shooting in the Mistral neighbourhood

Two adolescents aged 16 and 17, as well as a young adult woman, were placed under investigation for murder in an organised crime context and remanded in custody, according to france3-regions.franceinfo.fr on Wednesday 3 June. The Lyon prosecutor's office confirmed their alleged involvement in the shooting on 26 May in Grenoble, which cost one man his life and injured four other people.

A judicial investigation has been opened for "murder in an organised crime context", "attempted murder in an organised crime context" and "participation in a criminal association with a view to the preparation of a crime in an organised crime context", according to a previous statement from the Lyon prosecutor's office.

Shots fired from a vehicle in a deprived neighbourhood

The gunshots were fired from a car in the evening, in the Mistral neighbourhood, near a known drug dealing point. Five people were hit. The deceased victim, a 33-year-old man, was fatally struck in the back. He had 11 convictions on his criminal record, including one handed down on 19 May by the Grenoble criminal court for "rebellion" and "refusal to comply". The four other wounded, all known to the justice system, are not in danger of death. The shooting was filmed and the video shared on social media.

"This is becoming a tragic habit," lamented Grenoble prosecutor Étienne Manteaux at a press conference. "The practice that we are increasingly seeing on the part of these perpetrators is to film themselves to impress. We have once again seen a phenomenon of these acts being claimed. These acts appear clearly to be a reprisal in response to the fatal shooting recorded in Échirolles this Sunday."

An act of retaliation according to the prosecutor

According to the prosecutor's office, the shooting constitutes an act of retaliation following the murder of a 16-year-old youth found on the morning of 24 May in a burnt-out vehicle in Échirolles, in the Grenoble suburbs. Based on initial findings, this victim had also been struck by gunfire.

Since the beginning of 2026, ten people have been killed by gunshot in the Grenoble conurbation.
