Socialist Senator Corinne Narassiguin came under fire in Sevran during the night of 13 to 14 October while on a ride-along with the anti-crime brigade.
Seine-Saint-Denis Senator caught in exchange of fire on Avenue Youri Gagarine
Socialist Senator for Seine-Saint-Denis Corinne Narassiguin found herself in the middle of an exchange of gunfire in Sevran during the night of Tuesday 13 to Wednesday 14 October, while accompanying police officers from the anti-crime brigade (BAC) as part of a ride-along observation. The information, first reported by leparisien.fr, was confirmed by a police source to France Télévisions.
Narassiguin and the law enforcement officers present in the vehicle emerged unharmed from the incident. One person on the public road was slightly injured during the shooting, and a firearm was seized by police, according to the same source.
Avenue known for drug trafficking
The incident occurred on Avenue Youri Gagarine, an area that police services describe as regularly hosting drug trafficking and score-settling. Several shots rang out as the senator and police officers were at that location, trapping the BAC vehicle in the middle of the shooting.
Narassiguin was conducting an observation ride-along with law enforcement, a practice that allows elected officials to follow the daily work of police officers in the field. Seine-Saint-Denis, the department she represents, has several areas flagged for violence-related phenomena linked to trafficking.
