Sevran: gunshots erupt as Senator Narassiguin accompanied anti-crime unit
Socialist Senator for Seine-Saint-Denis Corinne Narassiguin was caught in a shooting in the night of Tuesday 13 to Wednesday 14 October in Sevran, whilst on an immersion with police officers from the anti-crime brigade (BAC). According to franceinfo.fr, which reports the information based on a police source at France Télévisions confirming an initial article by Le Parisien, the elected official and law enforcement officers emerged unharmed from the incident.
A person present on the public highway was slightly injured during the exchange of gunfire. A firearm was also seized at the scene, according to the same police source.
A known drug dealing point for police services
The incident occurred on Avenue Youri Gagarine, a sector that police services describe as a location "harbouring drug trafficking and regularly subject to settling of scores". It was in this context that several shots rang out whilst the senator was aboard the anti-crime unit police vehicle.
According to Le Figaro, the elected official reported having "heard bullets whistling past our ears" during the incident. Midi Libre indicates that around a dozen armed men are said to have opened fire, temporarily trapping the senator and law enforcement officers in the vehicle.
