An individual has been charged with "murder" and remanded in custody following the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old man in Maxéville, Meurthe-et-Moselle, the Nancy prosecutor's office announced on Saturday 22 August. The suspect was presented to an investigating judge that morning. Deputy prosecutor Amaury Lacôte told the AFP that the accused "admits to having fired on the victim" during a shooting whose origins "are linked to drug trafficking". The suspect's age was not specified by the prosecutor's office.
The incident dates back to Wednesday 18 August, at around 21:15, in the Champ-le-Boeuf district, a priority area for urban policy (QPV) in Maxéville, a town of approximately 10,000 inhabitants located on the outskirts of Nancy.
The mayor of the town, Christophe Choserot, had gone to the scene that evening. He had described to the AFP the arrival of "an armed commando that came to assassinate a young man who was outside his apartment building", and then pursued him to his home. Bullet impacts had been found on the façade of the building.
According to a police source, the victim was known to the Judicial Record Processing system (TAJ). Four individuals were reportedly involved in the incident, armed with long guns and handguns.
