Antibes: mother suspected of murdering 17-year-old son placed in psychiatric care

Compulsory hospitalisation following death of teenager with slashed throat in Antibes
A 43-year-old woman suspected of murdering her 17-year-old son by slashing his throat on Wednesday in Antibes has been placed in a psychiatric hospital, announced on Friday 21 August the Grasse prosecutor's office, according to France Info. The suspect had been found in the water near a beach, attempting to drown herself, after fleeing the family home located in a seafront residence.
Transported to Antibes hospital following her arrest, the woman in her forties underwent psychiatric examination before being placed in "compulsory hospitalisation", a measure permitting internment without consent, the prosecutor specified in a statement.
Father raises the alarm, teenager found unresponsive
It was the father who had raised the alarm. Arriving at the home, police services discovered the teenager "lying on his bed, body unresponsive and presenting a deep laceration to the throat", according to the public prosecutor's office. The father, described as being "in a state of shock", stated that the mother was "responsible for the act".
According to the prosecutor, he also indicated that the mother had attempted to stab him, without succeeding, before he managed to disarm her.
Investigation for murder and attempted murder
An investigation into "murder and attempted murder" has been assigned to Antibes' local judicial police service, tasked with "determining the circumstances of the facts and the motive for the act", the prosecutor's statement specifies. The suspect is described as "completely unknown to police and judicial services".
According to initial information raised on the day of the facts, the couple was in the process of separating. A letter written in Polish had also been discovered at the family home.
