Haute-Vienne: Two municipal staff arrested with 77 kg of drugs
On 1 June 2026, law enforcement in Haute-Vienne discovered nearly 70 kilograms of cannabis resin concealed in a cellar in Panazol, a municipality bordering Limoges. This seizure quickly led to the arrest of two municipal employees from this locality.
The investigation began following an anonymous tip-off received by police. The call directed investigators towards a first municipal agent, owner of the cellar where the packages were stored. When questioned, the latter indicated that a colleague from the town hall had asked him to store this merchandise in his premises.
Searches were subsequently carried out at the second official's home. Police found an additional quantity of seven kilograms of cannabis resin there, as well as 175 grams of cocaine. Two pistols and a sum of cash were also seized during this operation.
The case therefore involves two municipal employees from Panazol, a municipality of over 5,000 residents located in the Limoges agglomeration. Their status as municipal public employees adds a particular dimension to this drug-trafficking case, which has mobilised police services throughout the department.
Investigations are continuing to determine the exact scale of the network and identify any possible accomplices.
